Lille, France...?

I was interested in visiting it for a few days, seems an interesting place. Is there any dangers there? Do I need to take any extra precuacions aside from the usual precautions you'd take anywhere?

The local YHA hostel was a bit of a let down, not bad but not as good as most.
But there are many hotels in town.
And the tourist information in the center of town has (for France) rather short hours, so go there as soon as you arrive.
