Soap Operas. These are daytime stories that tell about a town or city as it revolves around a few families. They started on the radio a long time ago in the 40's. Most of their sponsors were laundry products, hence the name soap opera.

Daytime TV shows that run daily, are called soap operas because years and years ago, soap products were the sponsors and advertised their particular brand of soap during the commercial. Thus, it became called "soap operas." I never got into them myself but many just love them. Also, they used to be on the radio and the commercial would be a song about the particular type of soap. NO kidding.
