In a previous post, I told of a co-worker who never calls in to say she's not coming in. When she's out, I have to do all of her work, plus mine (run two production lines, manage the people on the lines, do inventory and all the paperwork at the end of the day). Today was a very difficult, stressful day. What's interesting is she wanted to come in to work today, and the boss said "No"--he told me he wanted to punish her by not giving her any hours. You can imagine how little I think of HIM--I mean, putting the quality of the work at jeopardy, not to mention hurting me in the process. Seriously, what do YOU think of my boss? This is the only time I get to talk about people at work, so thanks for listening.

Unlike the other folks, I went back and looked at your previous questions and the answers you were given and the remarks you made to some of the people.

First observation, if the answer isn't something you want to hear, whether it is accurate or sincere, you get an attitude. That may carry over into your work life. And I fully expect a retort about me, but you won't hurt my feelings or get less than an honest opinion/answer from me because of it.

Second, just a few days ago you said this company was closing down so everyone was going to get laid off. Looks like your co-worker really doesn't give a damn about her job any more.

Third, I know you went through some tough times a while back and probably aren't looking forward to job hunting again. Well, put on the big girl panties because you're going to have to soon.

Fourth, you're going to be leaving the company when it shuts down so why waste your energy and cause yourself stress worrying about a co-worker or the way the boss behaves?

And last, get your resumes out there in copious amounts, don't just rely on head hunters for a job. Start brainstorming what kind of businesses you could work for and start cold calling them yourself. Ask for the head of personnel, the secretary will say something like "that's Mr. Smith". You ask is that "John Smith?" Human nature will kick in and she will say "No, it's Jim Smith". Now you have the full name of the head of personnel. Send your resume along with a letter of introduction addressed specifically to Mr. Jim Smith. You've just cut ahead of a whole bunch of applicants.

So quit worrying about your current job and start worrrying about your next one. Good luck.

I know It doesn't seem fair, but I would do the same... It seems as if the only reason your co-worker comes in is to get a bare minimum of hours just to get by... and I've been recently put in the same boat (co-worker is an alcoholic) I've been doing three peoples jobs and pissed off, but the outcome was well worth my efferts.... He's now fired I received a $500 a month raise and a new co-worker who is grateful to be working... Just keep suiting up and showing up... do the work in front of you and maybe even put in a wage request letter based on your new duties... best of luck..

It sounds like your boss is getting VERY annoyed with this person. It won't surprise me if your co-worker gets fired in the near future.

Please set up a meeting with your boss during which you express your dismay at having to make up for all the work the co-worker is NOT doing. Also bring up the fact that you are feeling very unhappy with your job at present because of this and that if it continues, you will be left with no other choice but to seek employment elsewhere.

You do NOT deserve this. Make it clear that you will not continue to put up with this whatsoever. If your employer values you as an employee, he/she will rectify this problem in a timely manner.

Well to be honest you should look for another job asap. I mean what kind of company do you work for where people can just stay home without calling in not to mention your boned head boss making you do all of the work while she' s out. Don't quit your job but you really need to start looking for another one...soon.

If your boss wanted to punish her then he should have either scheduled someone in her place temporarily or filled the spot himself. That is what he is there for. If I were you Ii would find out if he planned this little stunt again and I would make an appointment to see the dr for a checkup that day and let him work what you had to. then maybe he would see the error of his ways.....

My bf is in the same situation. I would say that the boss is very mean. It's as if your boss thinks that you are the only one capable of doing two jobs.

I know how the boss feels when one of his workers just slips out of work but he is thinking too much at getting back at the employee and not enough of how much you had to go through. i am a bit in the middle but i am leaning towards the fact that you didnt get rewarded for your efforts.

Tell him that you can't continue to do the job of two people. They are only paying for one employee when they are getting that one employee to do the work of two. Tell him you will do it for her pay as well because punishing her is punishing you as well for it doubled your workload and stress. Next time make sure your work is done and have everyone share in the load.

I think that is very irresponsible of your boss. I agree with everything you say, and it's really awesome to hear that managers care about the quality of their products, because not everyone does that anymore.

Is there anyway you could report him to HR? Or talk about his behaviour with HIS supervisor?

I hope you get him in trouble! He deserves it
