DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THE MONEY DOESN'T COME OUT OF THE SLOTS IN LAS VEGAS ANY MORE.? THEY GIVE TICKETS NOW. THAT WAS THE FUN OF HEARING THE COINS FALL OUT OF THE MACHINES.

There are lots of reasons for the change to Ticket In/Ticket Out (TITO). TITO requires fewer employees then the old coin system. TITO is more profitable for the casinos because people tend to lose or forget to cash out tickets. Also, people don't see much value in a few cents (a TITO for a penny or two) and just throw them away.

It is faster and better for the customers because you don't have to wait for hopper fills or deal with coin jams. The paper is also cleaner than handling all the coins.

Some casino machines play the sounds of coins dropping into the trays when you push the cash out button. Many of today's machines have music that plays all the time to attract people. The casino has just replaced the sound of coins with other sounds.

Labor costs are always the most controlable cost in nearly any business. Casinos are no different. With the TITO system, staff only has to empty the machines on a regular basis. They no longer have to 'balance' the machines (making sure enough $$ is in the machine to pay out). They only have to maintain the payout machines.

If you go to Fremont Street, the majority of their machines still pay out in coin.

the coins were actually dirty if you handled a lot of them. the slots needed somebody to refill them with coins, now this way thats not done so often, so the casinos save on labor costs. Plus they needed a guard to protect the guy refilling the coin hoppers.

Probably saves on time putting them in the slots and then when you hit and decide to cash in you have to go to the cashier and they have to count them. It is cost efficient to just go to tickets.

Why do you play slots anyways - do people still do that??
