Would it be a good or bad idea to make dropout illegal (high school mainly; considering its mandatory unlike college), and why?

Good Idea *
How about if they drop out they have to join the military. That way they will be forced to at least get a GED and have a job as well as less likely to end up homeless.

I don't think it should be made illegal because education shouldn't be forced. The reason that the majority of students have bad grades and really don't care about school is because they're not interested in learning. The schools and/or teacher should find new ways of making student to really want to learn and how what they're learning help them.

I know this isn't a good example but when I was in high school there was a funny classmate that had very bad grades and skip classes a lot. But in science he got an A (the only A of his normal C,D and Fs) and it was because the teacher always tried to explain things with a turd. Yes a turd, for some reason my classmate had a obsession with turds and he ask how she could explain it with a turd. Like ATP(that is reserved energy), the teacher explained that if he was in the bathroom doing #2 that last strong push was made using ATP and that way he never forgot. I know a lot of people would take this the bad way and be offended but the truth is that he learn it.

I think it would create more problems in the schools. While getting an education is the most important thing that people can do for themselves, they have to want it! There needs to be more done for the kids who are in danger of dropping out, not just making another law that will be ignored. More alternate schools must be set up to help those that the usual school setting is not working for. After all, we tell adults all the time that if their jobs are making them miserable, that they need to find another job. Our older students need to be able to have that same option, and most of the dropouts live in families that cannot afford private schooling.

Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances which require a person to drop out. Such as the death of a parent in a two- incomes household. The student may opt to drop out and get a job to help the remaining parent. Other than that, there is only one other reason to drop out, and that is if a student developes his or her own company and cannot afford the time that school takes!!! No one else should ever drop out!!! May God bless you. Oh, so I disagree with you.

It would be counterproductive for the government to demand that students that don't want to be in the overcrowded, understaffed, and often useless school system stay there. They disrupt the students that want to learn and use assets that can be applied elsewhere. They are making a choice to enter the workforce and they have to live with the consequence that they will (probably) be the ones stuck doing the lower paying jobs.

no- there's no room for the 'real' offenders now...
but- in many areas there are laws against truancy:
are they enforced? For some reason I am offended at the thought of someone sleeping in class, or being allowed to zone out without remedial action...while others are actively
doing what they are asked to do.
in spite of my discomfort, some kids aren't school material, but
will be stuck till they 'graduate' or just grow old enough to bail.
damn- you musta hit a nerve...thanks.

no...if the kid feels like they know everything they should drop out and live with the consequences later on

Saves money for the people that really want an education

dropping out should not be made illegal, but there should be better guidelines than you only have to be 16 to do it

it would be great to illegalize it, you know why - because not so many kids would be dying of stds and other infections, they wouldnt be dying from drug overdoses, they wouldnt be 13 and single mothers - or 16 in jail for robberies.

keep our kids in schools man, whats this world coming to.
