Variable Rate (Ratio?) Oiling. It means you put oil into one tank, and gasoline into another, and the engine mixes the two as required for the immediate conditons.
The old way of doing things was to pre-mix oil into your gasoline before you filled the tank in the boat. Much less convenient.
Enjoy the boat!

RE:
im getting a 70 hp evinrude VRO. What is VRO?
Im getting a 1984 70 hp evinrude VRO. Do I need to mix the fuel with that motor? Do I add two stroke oil to it? Maybe it is a four stroke motor? I know, I should ask the person Im getting it from. It never hurts to get a little knowledge before hand. Thanks

2 stroke .Best check that yr i don't think vro came out that far back. If it does have then delete it as there was no alarm an the Eng is quit vintage i wouldn't trust the oil pump. Mix the oil in the tank.Make sure you get the hoses ,oil tank, control box, battery cables, prop, key switch, tilt switch , if binnacle mount, mounting bolts as there $6.00 ea need 4. as the price of those parts are exp$$$ Have someone do a compression check as the 3 cyc had issues with over heating the top cyc.

Remove the engine cover. Is there a reservoir for oil? If not it`s a 2 stroke. Get a manual for the motor, it will save you grief later on. If it hasn`t run for a while don`t forget to change the impeller, or you will damage the motor. Being an 84. I would say it`s a 2 stroke

It is a 2 stroke and has an oil tank and oil pump. The pump delivers oil to the engine in varying amounts according to rpm.
