Well. I guess I'm a part of furry fandom. I like animals. Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse are funny. The Ninja Turtles are cool. Pikachu is cute. So what? I also like the costumes. Dressing up is why I love Halloween. How is dressing as an animal different from dressing as a spandex wearing superhero or a robot?
If, on the other hand you're talking about sexual deviancy, errr.... That sort of thing, which I consider sick, exists in every fandom. It's called Rule Thirty-Four. Also, real or imagined, Furry Fandom is infamous for it. This results in many "closet fur fans" who don't want to be associated with something so gross.

Oh yeah, forgot to state my opinion. I think Furry Fandom is as normal and fine as any other fandom. Now try defining what's normal.

People have always devised ways of escaping reality. From masquerades where people would dress up in elaborate costumes to the new furry craze, people who are into this sort of thing are trying to distance themselves from their own personalities and take on a different identity.
It is a fantasy that arises from dissatisfaction with reality. What's funny though is that the craze is so ubiquitous that furries are now a part of the mainstream, which makes them a reality.
In any case, I think that anyone who likes to project a different image of themselves to the world than who they really are, should be psychologically evaluated. I like animals too, but I'm pretty happy as a human.

I think it's ridiculous how far the fandom has reached. The furries have attacked, mutilated, maimed and stolen from the most reverent sites. They need to be controlled before the savagry continues. I'm locking my door.
We live in the city and I've had to hang my meat sack from the nearest tree. It is however a street light. Very strange indeed. Plus, the bugs got into my sack. It said to refrigerate after opening, and I hadn't even opened it yet.

This question is appropriate to zoology because it may reflect people's perception of, relationship, and/or feelings towards the animal kingdom. On the other hand they might just find it fun.
I can't see much difference between furry fiction and many old children's bedtime stories. Today it can be 'Puss in boots' or 'Puss in thigh length leather boots' depending on whether it's furry fiction for children or adults.

I like the art that comes out of the fandom, but I myself am not into the "fandom" itself. I do admire the creativity that these people demonstrate.
Uh, why is this in zoology?

Despite the topic, i still don't think this should be in Zoology. This is for real animals not wannabes.
Aside from that, I try not to judge. You have to do whatever humps your camel and blows your hair back.
