They are both great. However; You have to remember that Aus is huge. So you have all types of people just like any other country. But by in large I have had good people experiences in both countrys. Not to much difference.

I live in NZ and work with a few Australians, and my impression is that they are indeed both remarkably nice people, although there seems to be a noticeable difference in mentality.
I may be wrong, but this is how it presents itself to me:
New Zealanders are great believers in reaching 100% group accord before going ahead with anything, and their hierarchies are soft and not deep. It has an almost Scandinavian feel to it, and you won't easily get into situations where people get bossy, pull rank, or brush you off, because that would be very un-NZ. Having said that, I feel there is a strong, underlying sense of "keeping one's stuff together", possibly to counterbalance the strongly collectivistic culture.
Australians seem more at ease with deciding things swiftly and without much involvement of removed, lower levels of hierarchy, and they have a lesser amount of scruples when it comes to telling people what to do or putting people in their place. On the other hand, I feel there is this amazingly warm and gregarious side to Australians which, come crunch time, may make Australia the less likely place to get lonely in.
