They cannot enforce immigration laws.
We have government run schools that do not prepare kids for the real world. In major cities, half of kids cannot graduate.
Social Security is an illegal Ponzi scheme.

The list goes on and on.

Name anything that would make a reasonable person think nationalizing health care is a good idea.

Kawai did answer my question, but the answers are wrong.

1. Road management-like the Big Dig in Boston that went $10 billion over budget or the I-84 situation in CT, where they have to rip apart a just finished 3 year project. There is some parts of this that are done well.

2. FDA/USDA-ask any research scientist. Definite no

3. Military-partially. There are too many bureaucrats in the DOD. We are not fighting the war in Iraq right. No PR, allowing classified leaks, etc. Partial credit here.

4. Police/Fire-costs too much, too many union entitlements. It works ok, but costs too much.

I wanted to thank a liberal for answering my question and doing so without calling me names. This is a real rarity.

one of the best health care systems in the world? I guess that's if you can afford to use it... ask the 45 million that don't have insurance if it's the best in the world? and the thing is.. .that number is growing and has been growing, as medical costs spiral out of control... the choice seems to be... do you want a health care system that may be a little worse, but serves 100 percent of the population or one that is a little better and serves what may be going toward only 60 percent? the simple fact is... people are going to start voting on this issue and when more people lose it... more people are going to be voting for social health care... something is better than nothing....

welfare is outdated and it all rests on one caseworker who may not like you for their own prejudice reasons. On top of that they aren't paid well and still use manilla folders,

healthcare system is on a decline because doctors, surgeons even nurses morale is at an all time low due to overcrowding and bills not being paid nor do they have the power to refuse non emergencies. Now on top of that lawsuits some valid alot not. Talk about biting the hand that saves you.

insurance is a joke and has driven cost of healthcare at ridiculous amounts. No compromise and citizens think, you expect me to pay 200,000?? Staff are thinking, I just dont get why they cant pay their bills!!

Homeland security...I don't feel secure, do you??

Social Security has been a grand success, with very minor tweaking it could continue to succeed into the forseeable future.

After all, starvation and death by exposure were cut to nearly nothing once Social Security was put in place.

The Postal service does a phenomenal job.

99% of mail I send and receive is delivered within a day or two.

You can't blame schools on the federal government, as they're local.

If we had a rational means of actually funding them, and got rid of "No Child Allowed to Learn Anything But Test-Taking" act, it would be possible to turn them around.

Under Clinton, FEMA worked very well.

What we have now, where most children aren't covered at all, nor tens of millions of adults, and people who need care are routinely denied it, where it costs hundreds of billions, most of that money goes into the pockets of people who don't actually help the sick (or who make 300% profit on what they do do), simply isn't working.

Every dollar that goes toward health care is paying 70 or 80 people who are doing everything they can to PREVENT healthcare from happening.

When it's broke, fix it.

Excellent take on it!

Just like our government, the ideal is such a perfect institution, but the reality is so very different.

Perhaps it would be poissible when you have all elected officials truly wanting whats best for america.
Only than can we ever see true progress.

The difficulty has always been one party seems to want to place themslves above america as a whole.
So they prevent care to be given to everyone, whichis contemptuous.
but thats how its been from the beginning of time..the rich want to protect their riches, the poor tend to want to care for eachother, hoping for a piece of the pie.

Its sad, but greed in man is a way of life.

Hopefully one day, the people of this country will truly unite and speak as one voice and make this governement life up to the ideals that this country was founded on.

Until then, republicans wil be doing everythign to demand a greater share of the american pie.

They're real good at pointing fingers at each other and lying like hell to cover their own foulups.
Turning health care over to congress would be like turning your credit card over to a 7 year old.
Frankly the ones who want gov. H.C. are the ones too cheap to buy health insurance.

bushnixonfact idiot said the post office and medicare are run well. That is possibly the funniest thing I have ever heard.

Kawaii listed I think five and not one of them works worth a crap, not one. Called the police lately. If your dog is barking too loud they'll be there in a couple minutes. Armed intruder in the house, they'll be there in about an hour to draw a chalk outline around one of your bodies.

Lindsey please name one country where socialized healthcare works, you can't. And don't give me any of Michael Moore's lies.

squandering tax dollars and debt appropriation is the
governments forte, and they do very well at spending what
they have and don't have.

(PS Postal employees pay for insurance just like any other
citizen, and gets the same shoddy service)

I think it is a good idea because there are people who can not afford healthcare from big businesses. They have failed countless people and I think we should give universal healthcare a try...it is currently being used by many other countries and has been proven effective. I mean the government controls our water supply, public transportation, roads ect...and those things are well managed and effective.
