Barry Bonds has killed baseball as far as i'm concerned. He was not the root of the problem, but he's the last nail in the coffen. I "was" a life long fan of baseball, and now i'm gone. If they even allow him to break Hank's record by way of the joice, then i'll never watch another game again. It's hard for this life long Cubs fan to walk away, but i will. True Baseball had died with the strike, but the last hope will be washed away this season. Does anyone else agree?

Look people, i said he was the last nail!!! Not the first and only one. You guys have watched baseball sell us out and you don't care. Yes "lots" of other players have helped us get to this point, but Bonds was the last staw for me anyways. So save the "your blaming it all on Barry" stuff for some one less informed. I ask if you ageed, and not to twist my words to make it fit your off subject answers!

The game has gone thru a lot of changes in my lifetime. As a lifelong LA Dodger fan, one of the biggest was when the O'Malley family sold the team to a company that only saw the players as products.

The strike of 1994 was devastating too and turned off fans, including me, for years. Most of today's fans don't know how we got here because they don't know where we've been. It's like they've got ADD --- unable to recall anything farther back than their team's most recent game.

The 2002 All-Star game was a disaster and showed the Players Union to has too much control over MLB. The owners need to show much more resolve dealing with the PU.

My hunch is that Barry is going to get strung up by his ****s (if they can still be found) and knows it. The legal system is just taking its sweet time. So from one baseball fan to another I'll put in my petition: Hang tough until the lawyers are done with BB. Things will get better.

Barry is damaging baseball more than he realizes.
Does he care? Hah. He never cared. He earns millions playing a kids' game, yet gives nothing back to the sport. Ruth, who grew up poor and in an orphanage, was famous for visiting kids in need of a break, whereas BB has all his photo-ops carefully choreographed, and doesn't have one ounce of real compassion for another living soul. He's one sorry excuse of a human being. Nobody is gonna miss him when he's gone.

Yeah... looking at the attendance figures. And the fact that in the last few years baseball has added revenue streams of mlb.tv, extra innings on cable and directv....

Baseball teams are WORTH more, new stadiums are being built all over the league.

Yes, it sure looks like baseball is dead.

Yes, you are also correct. Before Barry, the game was pure... there was no racism, alcoholism, drug use, spousal abuse, no one in baseball gambled, no one cheated, no one ever broke the law INCLUDING violating prohibition...

Oh, and as a LIFE long Cubs fan, why didn't you leave when Leon Durham booted that ball? Or when Andre Dawson won the "M.V.P." for a LAST place team?!? Or when Will Clark cracked that Grand Slam in '89? Or when Sammy's bat EXPLODED in a cloud of cork and ash?!?! Gee, whiz CUBS fan... you freaking CHEERED Sammy Sosa, and you have the nerve to say Barry Bonds is the root of the problem? I guess 1998 is pure through YOUR rose colored glasses.

And lastly, life-long Cubs fan... why didn't you let the door hit you in the behind when your Cubbies CHOKED in Wrigley to the Marlins???

By the way... thanks for the laughs!

so why is barry the "nail" i guess 8-9 gold gloves, 500 plus stolen bases, 300 plus batting average, 750 plus homers isnt enough to satisfy u? oh the droids/ give us a break get over it. how bout looking into some cubs,, u know pitchers in the past that doctored the ball , players on uppers legendary for decades... droids dont make u hit better and hes never been proven guilty..seems to me you just cannot accept hes the best player in the last 40 plus years, oh well like he cares!, was he on droids the other day? 6 rbis, 3 for 3 w 2 long homers at the wrig?

Wish I could write it bette... but I doubt it can. Well put. I also place a ton of blame with the fans who love this stuff. I dont know how many arguments I have gotten into with people over how much the homerun hurts baseball and this proves it (to a point). As a coach on a semi-pro team and a person very active in youth sports I advocate speed and gaps over power every day of the week.

I would never walk away although I agree Bonds does not deserve the record. He is a cheating liar. Yes other players did it to but none of them are as big of jerks(except maybe Albert Belle)and none have come this close the the most sacred record in all of sports.

No i don't agree at all.Whether or not Bonds used steroids ,lots of players have used steroids, and still sucked. It takes talent to accomplish what he is accomplishing. So if you don't like him ,than don't ,but the least you can do is give him a little respect. It surprises me that a life long fan of baseball would suddenly stop liking baseball just because of Bonds.

The first guy was right on.

my comment would mirror that of alangj---well done by the way---except i would add the fact that Sammy "the corked juicer" Sosa would have to be one of those nails, Raphael "I did not take steroids-but I failed the test" Palmiero another. And can you honestly say that the current HOF inductees are clean of the juice? NO. Everyone is fixated on Barry because he screwed on a bigger head. I say GO Barry! It gives the world something to enjoy and/or complain about...both favorites amongst the human race.

No way. For the few players that disrespect the game there are about 100 more times people that honor the game. You can't let a few people get into your head and think that because of them the whole sport is ruined.

So, let's see... you either:

a. have left, in which case, why are you here?

b. are leaving -- well, get on with it.

or,
c. are leaving is some event "X" happens -- that's nice, but so what?

Having something to say is not the same as talking to hear your own voice.

Do, or do not. There is no try.
