I am sure that aliens have churches too.

Assuming you mean churches on earth and not on their planet (since, according to your rhetorical question, they, too, are thinking beings, albeit alien thinking beings, one might also assume that their existence has been pondered among them and surely some of those aliens will credit their existence and the existence of their planet to "someone" higher and more powerful than themselves and create systems, rituals, and places to acknowledge that power), I doubt those wiould be the things that make an impression on an alien. Churches and town halls/city halls/ and small government buildings and banks would probably be duly noticed, but something tells me that skyscrapers and Disney will be the thing that the aliens really will have a curiousity/interest in... and water, because isn't Earth the only planet that has water, and the earth is more water than land. And, with all the wonderful things in the oceans and seas and lakes to encounter and discover, why assume that aliens will even be looking at us. They may just want to see the dolphins.

They might not land, fearing the sharp spikes will hurt them. Some might think they are only packages to open and eat anyway; if they fall into a trap, they're meant to be food, just like the animals . .. It depends on how smart they are. They probably would wonder why so many people are in them and all they do is sit and sing and they don't even sing good. Maybe they'll think it's a singing contest for who gets to live in the church

They may say, "and I thought we were irrational".

There is an expectation that ETs will be more rational and intelligent than us (like Spock). This is due to the assumption that our irrational beliefs keep us from attaining world peace and building star ships. But why wouldn't they be irrational like us? They may believe in God and an afterlife too. They probably have emotions too. Otherwise, they'd just be mindless machines.

Similar to what we think about termite mounds, beaver dams or termite mounds.

Religion is not a sign of an advanced culture. It is a sign of culture, but not of intellect and enlightenment. Most religions evovled at times when the average person was uneducated or not educated past the 4th grade.

Churches and similar building in our society are merely signs of oppression that we inflict on one another. The ways in which we try to control the behaviour of one another and the ways that we try to deal with the fear associated with life.

I think that much of sci-fi perspectives of aliens destroying our planet and species are based on our belief systems and religions. if you didn't consider our society as being advanced, would you care if your foreign species annihilated it? I wouldn't.

They might think that people sure like to be led around by the nose and that humans don't like to think for themselves and that a small ? percentage of humans ? sure are manipulative and power hungry. Then They will laugh like hell because they will realize how easy it will be to take over the planet, considering how weak minded the citizens are.
