You could accomplish the same end (not allowing someone access to your boss when he wants to be left alone) without lying.

Simply tell them that he is not available. He will be available ______ (after 3, tomorrow, next week). If you would like, I can take your information and he will get in touch with you at his first availability.

Oh gosh, I wish that was my biggest worry! :o) I hate lying also, but you have to realize that sometimes you have to. Yes, you HAVE to. The way that you can feel not so bad about lying is to realize that this lie isn't going to hurt anyone. That's just life.. once in a while you have to tell little white lies in order to do things like keep your job, get out of work on an important day, etc. As long as you're not hurting anyone, then don't feel so bad about it. Everyone does it. In fact, I'd think it would be pretty impossible to find someone who NEVER lies. Don't worry, it really doesn't make you a bad person. That would only happen if your lies hurt someone, and in this case, that's not going to happen. Don't stress! :o)

That happened to me. I hated having to lie.

You can just tell the caller that your boss is unavailable at the moment. If the person asks where he is, say: "He doesn't always tell me where he is going." Neither is a lie.

If I was asked to lie about too many other things, I would find myself another job. I don't like working for someone who has no integrity.

I used to work with two attorneys who were involved in a relationship with each other. The male started cheating on the female and he asked me to lie for him. I left that firm and found a better-paying position in another law firm. I won't tolerate that consistent lying game.

Don't "gone", say "unavailable". That won't be a lie.

By the way, the Commandment is against "bearing false witness", as in accusing someone of something they didn't do.
