Usually once you are able to loosen the socket that hold the light bulb (snaps open or unscrews) the rest is easy.

With the lamp unplugged and the plug cut off you want to loosen the socket and pull it up. The cord will come with it. If the cord is a straight shot to the bottom just yank it out. If it looks like it will be a problem getting a new cord down the same path then tie a thin strong twine (like kite string) onto the plug end of the power cord. As you pull the cord out the string will come up and give you a pull cord you can use to get the next cord back in.

Look at the socket. Typically when you open it up (snap off the cover for instance) you will see two screws that the ends of the wires attach to. That is where you want to put the stripped ends of the new wires. Take the old ones off with a screw driver and put the new ones on the same way.

Push or pull everything back into place and you are done.
