OK, so my laptop screen is partially broken (still works but has black splotches in parts of it). I have seen replacement screens on Ebay for 100-200 bucks.

Is it fairly easy to replace these, and will the replacement function just as well? I've had some people tell me I'm better off just buying a new laptop, but obviously that's a lot more expensive.

Thanks

You can get the screen replaced with parts and labor for under $200. You can buy the screen and do it yourself, slightly complicated but not brain surgery. Check my link for illustrated steps.

Well It would depend on how old your laptop is. If its old enough, a new laptop would be in your best interest. I have seen people using ancient technology and if that's what youre doing, its probably best to just buy a whole new laptop because youre gonna have to do that some time anyways

Is it easy? Well that would depend on your knowledge of computers, electricity, etc. I don't think most people would find it easy and some people I'm sure would have no clue how to do it. But you could always send it in to a store and have them replace the screen for you. The replacement should function just like new, assuming the problem really was related to the screen itself, not the video card or another component.

I've replaced the screens and it is not too hard but in the end, you still have an old computer. You have to ask yourself...with laptops starting @$399, should I put the $200 for a screen towards a new laptop?

agello24 is right. Just buy a new one, if your current laptop is not that old then your sould get some decent cash for it on ebay for parts. I sold a three year old dell on ebay for close to $500, laptops retain thier value a lot longer than dektops. So I say sell it on ebay for parts and use the money to buy yourself a new laptop.
