it could be in whatever download client ur usings settings or in a firewall or somthing ... check ur speed with an online tester ..and i max my 5mb line on wireless so i dont know where the other guy is coming from ..

If you purchase a DSL connection that states 768 Kilo Bytes per second and when you Download something and are watching the the download progress window and it states -
54 Kilo Bits per second, That is normal.
Do not mix up Bytes and Bits. Divide 768 Bytes by 8 to get the Bits per second.
768/8 = 96. That is the max you will ever get. But due to line lose and other factors you are only getting 54. Not bad.

First, what did you use to check your speed? If your downloading a file and it's only downloading at 54kb/sec then that is normal. You will never download files at your ISP's advertised speed. That's not how it works. If you wnt to test the actual speed of your internet connection go to www.broadbandreports.com. You can do many types of speed tests on thier site and they will tell you your actual download/upload speeds. Just make sure your not downloading or surfing the web while it's testing the speed, that will give you mixed results.

It differs. Internet speed is thru megabits and kilobits. And like that old Granny who is surfing with 40 Gigabits a second, that speed is only 5 GigaBYTES a second.

u will never get that on a wireless internet. goto yahoo and type modem speed test. test ur internet speed on one of the pages.
