I have less than $10 in my bank account and if i used a check at gas station that accepts checks and bought more than $10 worth of gas, what are the odds that i can play a game of beat the bank and use my paycheck to deposit the money in my account on monday before the gas check clears? If i don't follow through with this, then i won't be able to go anywhere this weekend with my car, and can only put gas in on monday b/c i know they wouldn't clear the check the same day it was taken.

That is like playing cat and mouse with your money and the banks.
But truly the way it works is that, when you write a cheek and give it to a company, it will then stay there until the person that dose deposits take all the cheeks to there bank, then there bank goes to your bank to withdraw your money from your account.
Then your money goes directly to that businesses account.
This all takes between 12 to 24 hours to do, and just because it is the weekend, the computers are still chugging.
It's called electronic transferring.
Hope this helps you understand how the banks work today, anyhow whats wrong with ten dollars worth of gas anyhow?

Some businesses DO bank deposits daily ,
Sooooo , if you want to learn about kiting and the extreme costs of check bouncing . . .
Better to stay home if you only have $10 in the bank .
What you gonna do ? Stare at advertising bill boards while driving ? You don't have enough for a McD meal .
Walk to the park OR do some yard work for neighbors for $$$$ since you are on the broker than broke list !

you are broke. playing this game will make your situation worse.

When the check gets there 1st you now have to pay your bank a penalty and late fee plus the penalty to the gas station.

Lots of places have check scanners so the paper check is converted to an electronic transaction and the check clears within a minute.

why not get on a plan? spend less than you make, have a written spending plan each month, have some money left over each week for gas, so that you can by gas without doing all this insane stuff?

never write a check for money that isn't in the bank... doing so can cost you money. overdrafts at my bank are $34 each time. money wasted

I would give you 80% odds of clearing the check, the 20% against is based on your laziness to actually make it to the bank Monday.

Good luck

i think of that American's ought to clone Vanna White to coach the gasoline value signs and indications because of the fact fees replace so often. putting a cost variety is impossible. try stoping the pump on or maybe volume it alway rolls over to the subsequent pennie. under no circumstances had this hassle until eventually a three hundred and sixty 5 days or so in the past.

Do it!!! What will they do? Sew you. I dont think so. Just go and spend it. I think you will make it anyways. It takes about a week for the station to cash the check. (I used to work at a gas station)
