Hospitals really don't care if the visitors are uncomfortable. If you're uncomfortable, and you're a visitor, leave.

Hospitals are concerned about patients. Patients are largely inactive, so they aren't generating excess heat. In addition, many injuries/wounds can cause the patient to reduce their internal temperature. Many, many patients complain of being cold. Hospital temperatures are raised to keep the patients comfortable.

Last time I was in hospital I was so hot I wanted some windows open - I was near expiring in the heat - I ended up having to hi-jack a wheelchair & escape to the outside!
My MIL is in a nursing home - SHE always used to keep the house too hot for me - but now SHE can't stand it being so hot.
It isn;t always about the patients - some patients hate the extremely high temperatures as much as some of the visitors do. Maybe it is just about keeping the staff comfortable?

The reason for the heat is because the body has to use a large portion of it's resources to maintain it's correct temperature. By keeping the ambient temperature high it allows a patient to use far less energy to maintain body temperature allowing it to utilise the saved resources to fight infection and heal wounds.

In addition because there is a lack of exercise circulation slows down slowing the healing process. Lack of simple exercise (which builds heat) means patients can actually get quite cold putting more strain on their systems. Have you never dozed off and woken cold?

Common sense says hospitals could save a lot of money lowering the temperature if it was not vital to the patients survival after surgery and recovery!

Hospitals are kept warm because the majority of the people in there are elderly and are cold !! We are not trying to make the visitors comfortable!! Just be glad that you can leave and go home to your nice comfy sofa !! I find your comment kind of selfish it's not always about you!!

who cares about the visitors, i was in 3 months ago during the only mini heatwave we had this year (which i missed in its entirety) and was sweating my balls off. it was far to hot and based on this fact alone i have decided not to go into nursing i lay there at night covered up with a soaking wet towel on top of me with the fan on. its vile and i have to go back next week and not looking forward to it.

It's to spread the germs i think. They need a warm place to multiply. It's not just hospitals that i find are too warm. Schools and nurseries are cooking too.

Most large shops are the same.
You come in from wet and cold street and its so hot you feel ill and have to start taking layers off.

Perhaps you were just HOT..because hospitals are always kept cool to prevent the spread of germs.
