i was going to ask for live support, but the feature is unavailable for a free account, which i have...and the thing is, im so frustrated that i might just even sen in the form, but heres the thing, i dont wanna send them via fax/mail because i dont want them to call or send me letters about their offers and stuff...so, is it true that if i just dont use it it'll cancel automatically? but i havent used it in a year and its still there...should i just give it to my friend who's been dying to get an account?

No they can not delete a screen name because you don't want it there anymore. Yahoo can't either. Nor att or your cable companies. Once a sn is created it stays no matter what company you get it thru. Even if you created a secondary sn under your major sn it takes forever if ever for that name to be available again.You can cancel your acct but it will not delete your sn.There's a huge difference between the 2. accept that just like with any other company they can not make your sn just disappear. I've had an att/yahoo sn that i cancelled years ago and it's still there if I ever want to open it again. I know it may seem like it but this isn't some big conspiracy aol has worked up to keep customers.

AOL = American Off-Line.

I read news about how AOL makes it super-hard to cancel, so try to be very firm when you tell them you want to cancel it.

Oh, by the way - they won't cancel your account if you don't use it at all. They want to make easy money if they can, and they really don't care if any subscribers are paying for it even though they never use it. You need to check all of your bills and/or credit cards to make sure that they are not charging you for it.

Yes there is. go to bill.aol.com (DO NOT PUT WWW INFRONT OF IT) sign in there, you need to put the answer to your security question in on the next screen. once you get into your account screen, on the left side of the screen youll see a tab that says price plan. click that. then on the bottom left youll see FREE AOL $0, on that tab you can actually see where you can cancel every thing

You might have to give it time (i.e. 24 hours) before its completely cancelled/wiped.

Failing that, have you tried contacting the AOL 'live help' department they can guide you through the exact procedure as you maybe doing something wrong!

the link is a trick. call them and tell them NO to every question that has nothing to do with canceling.
