Is it really a scam for both buyers & sellers? They say that when a person sells Avon, they're buying more than what they're selling because of buying the catalogs & not making any sales. Now I was a grown woman-19 yrs. old, & my former foster mom stopped me from selling Avon. Many people told me it's a scam & not good business, but I do hear how some poeple make money off of it. & the company was yanking unnecessary money out of my bank account every day for catalogs I didn't even ask for.

What's your personal experience with buying &/or selling Avon? Tell me all you can.

I used to be an avon rep about 7 years ago and i found it hard to make more than £25 in one catalogue moslty because other reps stole my area and also people just don't want to pay the prices when you can get much cheaper in the supermarkets etc.....i struggled most nights doing 2 hours work and most of the time i never got my catalogues back and noone would answer their doors......i did love all the cosmetics and things but i tried for a year and the most i got in one catalogue was about £35 which is pathetic considering i did about 12 hours a week on it, i worked out i got paid 70p an hour....CRAP OR WHAT lol i think they are a bit of a con and nowadays a lot of people won't buy it!!!!!

It isn't a scam, that's for sure! My mom and two of my aunts have sold both Avon and Mary Kay. The only reason why you won't make a lot of money is if you don't know a lot of people who will be potential buyers, or you don't want to be very involved. Personally, Mary Kay involves a lot of work (more so than Avon). You need to send out flyers, advertise that you sell it, and be willing to have makeovers (and Sample parties) at your house in order to make it successful, and make good profit. If that sounds like something you want and could really do, then go for it!
**Best of luck!

Not only have I bought Avon but I did sell it a few yrs ago. There is money to be made selling Avon if you are diligent enough to not spend all of your proceeds on buying product. Take advantage of the many opportunities to add to your product line without spending a small fortune. Also, if you are interested in selling it ask friends and family if they would be willing to purchase it from you first. Order smaller quantities of catalogs to start out with....as your business grows then add more.
As far as Mary Kay goes.........It's more expensive and the demand is not as high in my area. So look at your location and the people that surround you before you make any decisions.
Its worth a shot and the cost to start selling Avon is very minimal. I know in my area alot of times you are only looking at a start up cost of $25.00.

Both companies are solid reputable companies and not scams! it really is personal preference as far as which one you want to sell. I sell Mary Kay. I love the product and believe that is very important with anything you are selling. My Mary Kay director sold Avon for several years before Mary Kay and didn't make much money with Mary Kay she was able to quit her full tome job and is driving a free car. That doesn't mean people don't do well the Avon they are really different. I believe Avon is more about selling through the catalog and has a whole range of products which is good and bad. I love that Mary Kay focus on skin care and building relationships with customers I have lots of reorder business and great relationships with my customers. I provide a service and they do most of their shopping with me especially for gift giving at the holidays.
Hope that helps. If you want any more specific on Mary Kay email me.

My sister sold Avon but she did OK because of the tax write-off. She was able to write-off part of her house as an office type place and the selling materials are tax deductible. However I don't think she made that much off of it. Mostly my mom and I bought from her. But every gift I got from her while she was selling was some Avon crap.

I got talked into giving a Mary Kay party once and bought some skin care but that was about it.

I am also 19 and sell AVON. Never ever give your bank info to Avon. What i do? I buy what my customers ordered and send the money to Avon that is authorized by me via phone. Avon seller makes little money, but its better because we dont really do anything. Give out to campaign books, order online, pay by phone, and give the stuff to customers. Also, my mom has been selling avon since she opened her beauty saloon which was 40 years ago.

I have never sold either, but my pal at work sells Avon, and she does quite good business at work, because it is a large company. I don't buy huge amounts of stuff from her because I think it can be quite pricey. I have had Avon since I was a child, my mom used to buy us all stuff from Avon when we were kids, lip gloss, and perfumes etc. I have only bought items from Mary Kay a few times, I have NEVER had any luck with anything from Mary Kay. All of their cosmetics have made my skin breakout, and I am totally allergic to all their eye makeup.

I am a former Avon rep, but I am a current Mary Kay Rep. I didn't do too well with the Avon, but I enjoy selling Mary Kay immensely. You are right about the Avon though-you do buy more than what you sell, that's why I got out of it. The customer who said she broke out from the Mary Kay, must wasn't aware of Mary Kay's sensitive skin care line. If you are thinking of buying or selling Mary Kay, feel free to email me and we can go from there, or better yet, here is my site info: www.marykay.com/cassandralane. God Bless.
