Ours, whether we like it or not.
No democracy has survived the discovery that they can vote themselves anything they want out of the treasury.
It is this very temptation that socialists are dangling in front of people with things like Universal Health Care and such.
It's free, isn't it? Nope. The costs are hidden in higher tax rates, as the rich leave the country and standards of living drop, jobs disappear, etc.
Even the Athens democracy was not a full democracy. If you were Athenian, and male, and rich, you were able to participate.
We have a good compromise between the two, enough to keep us from going too far in any direction.
I'm grateful for it, including for the segments that resist my goals.
Need brakes and gas no matter what direction you are headed.

well as we have all learned in hstory- there would had been no Athens democracy if there was no Sparta. we are not a democracy in this country - the founding fathers made it that way- a demcracy is a style which all of the people vote on all of the issues - a republic is one which you elect representatives that share your opinions to represent you in congress

The ATHENS democracy. And people in Athens, like Greeks in general, oppose US/NATO wars of aggression.

A free society, as much as it can be managed, is universally more beneficial than a military dictatorship.
The Athenian Greeks made great contributions to the richness of our world and its cultures. Aside from being more macho, and fighting like demons, what exactly did Sparta contribute to history?
