Hi, I am buying my first car ever, and I don't really know anything about cars in general so I don't want to get ripped off. I am seriously looking to buy a 2007 Mazda 3 S Touring automatic with the moonroof/6cd package and I asked for a quote via email with a Mazda Dealer. The dealer replied back stating that he would sell it to me for the invoice price. The Invoice price is $ 19,750. I am not sure if that price is too low or too high. I also don't know if he is going to haggle to price or not. If he is going to haggle, how much should I try to bring the price down? If any one could help me with any suggestions it would be awesome. Do yourself a lil research for you area. Go online and search yahoo Autotrader for a 250 mile radius of where you live and check out the other dealer prices online for the exact model you want. Next realize it is almost August and not only are the new year models about to show up but the tax man will start ringing soon on dealers. Don't jump at the first nice deal you see. Most dealers today have equal pricing deals. Next all the BS dealer prep fees go away. Dealer prep is a price padding fee for removing the plastic from the seats, putting in floor mats, and other lil BS cosmetic things. If they want money for mats, skip it and get the mats from Ebay or Amazon...they will be cheaper. Don't let them talk you into undercoating or Scotchgard seat treatments....you can buy the cans of spray to treat the seats at Wal-mart and do it yourself...which is what alot of dealers do for the Scotchguarding....and most dealers send the car to a body shop for undercoating and then charge about double for work someone else did. Next, remember your auto salesman is paid by commission and he is looking at getting a profit margin for his pay out...so if you have to talk to the service manager himself...he or she will get you the best possible price as they are usually salary and it is no skin off their back or nose if the saleperson loses out. That is why online saves so much with dealers...your dealing with salary folks and not commission folks. Lastly while your searching online, see if there are any dealers who have a 06 or dealer executive 07 model with a great price. Yes it is a model older or a test driven or dealer driven vehicle but they have way more incentive to move them than you would believe.

Invoice is right, and good deal

Just make sure they show you the invoice and look it over. Also check the rebates out.

You can go online to several dealers and get quotes if you get a lot of the same response for that particular kind of car then they arent screwing you over.

Internet departments at dealerships have a lot of competition. It is the best way to get a deal on a new car. You have the right information!

Dealers pay a little bit under the invoice for the car. It is called Holdback. It is from the factory to help pay for things like advertizing. The dealers also have to pay to have the vehicle there on the lot for you to see. It is interest paid to a bank for loaning them the money to have the car.

Basically, yes the dealer makes some profit if they sell it to you at invoice. On this type of car it isnt much. It is a business and they do need to make something. They also have to pay the people that you deal with, the electricity, and for that quote you got.... Yeah that cost them $15.

No, invoice price is still too much this time of year unless that is a really popular model. This is clearance time and they have hidden factory incentives and volumne discounts that you won't see printed on the invoice they show you. Try the link below and for $14 you can get a full report on the car you want with real invoice pricing or for $39 you get unlimited reports for 3 months. This is from Consumer Reports, the most trusted name in auto reporting. Btw, I've seen local dealers advertising the Mazda 3 for $1500 below invoice...but we all know how trust worthy dealer advertising is...mostly bs where you have to read tons of fine print!

I too bought my first car new, 2007 Mazda 3 Sport GT. Unfortunately for us this car is hot, and a lot of people are looking to get one, so you probably won't have too much luck reducing the price. However you can probably get some items thrown in. (I got a moonroof and a block heater included in mine). And even worse for me was the 2007's were just coming out and my dealer didn't have exactly what i wanted on the lot, so they had to locate one. again this reduces the amount i could negotiate for.

The car has been well worth what i paid so far. I'm happy with it, and I hope you will be too!

Having 12 years in the auto industry, I will help a little. First contact the dealership you are thinking about through thier internet Dept. Yopu will generaly get an easier time, (thats what I do as internet manager). A dealer should be happy to sell you a Mazda 3 FOR INVOICE. Second there should be some rebates also. Go to your local credit union and get your financing before hand. Third, GAP insurance is a must, but it is negotable, try to stay around 250.00-299.00 for it. Third do not pay dealer prep or a dealer fee. If they have one, have them subtract it from the selling price.
Keep in mind if you can achieve a deal like this it is going to be what they have in stock, and not on a locate unit. Goodluck

invoice price means nothing it is not what the pay for the car haggle away.

personaly I would never buy a new car again you loose 4 grand whan you pull it off of the lot/

Wait, the 5-door, or the sedan? Either way, I wouldn't want to pay anything over $17,000. There's so many other cars that are pretty much the same thing from a different company that are a whole lot cheaper. I like these because they look good, though (the 5-door, anyway).
