I'd rather be wanted because that means I was chosen just because of me. If I'm wanted and with someone, I will be needed too.

Wanted. I would rather be CHOSEN by someone. To NEED is to be dependant. And what if that person decides that they are not dependant on you for what you were giving them any longer? I would rather be wanted. It is much more flattering to me to know that they chose me, for no other reason than they wanted me to be in their life, because they love me for who I am.

I actually had this discussion with someone just last night.
A relationship based on need is inherently unhealthy; when you "need," you behave as an addict who needs his drug -- bad choices are inevitable.
A relationship based on wanting is an act of choice, based on the qualities of the person.
I am with the woman in my life not because I need her -- I have been alone before and could easily do it again -- but because I want her, because she adds great happiness to my life. I consider it the ultimate sign of my respect for her that I am not with her because I have to be, but because I choose to be.
