Well, as you know the speed limit is around 65 or 75 mph, so think about it. It wouldnt give Mercedes a good name if there was an accident of some drunk guy hitting another car with children at 190mph. I do know what you mean though, If i bought a sports car, I woulnd nessisarily like to have a limiter, but it is safer to have them. If you feel you really dont want it, i know they can be removed somehow, ask a mechanic.

in simple terms to function onto what Mad Jack pronounced, there is likewise a reason that Chrysler did no longer placed greater rated tires on the three hundred. The brakes and suspension are no longer designed for speeds over the limiter. once you commence going one hundred thirty-a hundred and sixty MPH, you're asking plenty out of your brakes, and different factors contained in the vehicle. I incredibly have a 2004 4 cylinder Audi. My vehicle will do a GPS shown 161 MPH at redline in 5th kit. the fee limiter on my vehicle exchange into set at 128 MPH from the production unit, yet my production unit tires have been rated for 168 MPH. I later found out it incredibly is because of the fact my brakes weren't designed to many times give up the vehicle from those style of speeds. I later upgraded the brakes, and bumped off the limiter. be careful.

couple reasons. first it helps meet the emissions requirements of the government for miles per gallon and such. secondly, many people don't know much about cars, so they can't tell when they are pushing the engine too hard. This limiter makes it so you can not burn the engine up by driving too fast. If you want to get rid of the limiter, you can get a new computer chip for the car that gets rid of the restrictions. This will increase your top speed, horse power, and torque.

Lamar has got it right, the limiter is there because of the speed rating of the tires (SR,VR, ZR, etc.) Any faster would require race tires which are totally impractical for street driving due to wear factors, cost, handling, etc. Plus being able to fit them in the wheel wells.

Last two answers are correct in that the tires are the limiting factor..In fact on the Cadillac STS and -V cars and others, the higher performance packages get better tires and higher speed limiters.

Because the factory won't put racing tires on for you, you'll have to get them yourself. the best factory Z rated tires are only good for 150
