I mean come on...they chase all the Talaban into Pakistan after 9/11 that was a no brainer to see...then they do a 180 and exit stage left into Iraq...totally forgetting about Afghanistan and all those who fled into Pakistan.

So what now, are they saying they are surprised to find out that all these years they have been plotting and planning within Pakistans borders undisturbed?

Give me a break...

This is where their efforts should have been focused all along.

ritefielder, I really don't buy that.

That is not why they moved into Iraq at all, it was all under false pretense, and the only reason there are so many terrorists there now is because the war has created that chaos and insurgency.

Pressure should have been placed on Pakistan by the international community and the UN (which by the way where are they in all this...oh wait...who cares anymore they pretty well have been usurped and lost all credibility) so at this point, there's a much bigger mess and the potency of terrorism has only increased and not decreased one iota.

So what are you saying McKenzie the public has to be duped and lied to, and whatever it takes to get the job done gets done?

The USA knows what is best for everyone...screw other countries and nations they are too stupid to know what is good for (them)...wow...talk about arrogant and self indulgence. This is what the land of the free is all about?

Everyone's a liar then... Russia was never a threat? China is just sitting in wait to overtake the world? Guess the public has to just sit here and be a bunch of idiots and second guess the people elected to represent their interests as being God, the all knowing.

Seems to me he's done a pretty screwy job up until now.

This war needs to be fought on all fronts.

Pakistan won't allow America to conduct military operations in Pakistan...so it is kind of hard to fight the Taliban.

Their efforts need to be focused all over...not just on one front but all fronts. We are still conducting operations in Afghanistan and in Iraq. There are terrorists in Iraq. We are currently fighting a war on terror.

EDIT: I think the war in Iraq was somewhat about oil. The fact still stands that there are terrorists in Iraq....terrorists that want to see the destruction of Israel and America...and we need to go after them.

Saddam had WMDs. His WMD program was very mobile and that is why in the 90's, he got a lot of flack for making a mockery of the weapons inspection possess...democrats even said so:

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

And when the UN actually does something useful, then I will support them...but they don't do anything...in Sudan, the peacekeeping forces can't shoot anyone that shoots at them. They weren't useful at all in Somalia in the 90s. UN sanctions are a joke because they accomplish nothing.

We are still fighting the Taliban. We have been fighting terrorism all over the world.

I would just like to know why democrats didn't blame Clinton for not going after terrorists...even after a US building was bombed, after two US embassies were bombed, and after a US Naval ship was bombed during his administration. The democrats are easy to show the faults of this president but they can't look in the mirror.

Actually technically America has been watching the Taliban since Presidents Fords administration. We watch them take over after defeating the Soveit Union, we watched them move the country backward technilogically 50+ years. We watched them torment their women and cut the clitorises off their Daughters as a right of Passage. It is easy to blame one but OUR GOVERNMENT as a whole has been ineffectual.

I am a military brat and grew up abroad the "War On Terror" has been going on for over 30 years and the brilliant leadership of the Hippy Generation has done a good job of insuring it went unnoticed even when Americans were being attacked abroad and are doing a great job us leading us back down the path of "if we ignore it it'll go away". Of course if we ignore it you get things like 9/11.

I wish I could answer this question publicly.

There are good reasons for not doing that. It is one of those situations that the public grabs and uses for hatreds that existed long before the event.

Example: During the Suez Canal crisis, we chased off our own allies, even bringing the fleet out of Italy to enforce it.

The world thought we were insane. Our allies wanted to hit us upside the head. Our adminstration looked stupid.

Why would we chase our own allies out of Egypt and surrounds when their canal had been nationalized? Weren't they defending their own interests? We even chased Israel back to it's own borders! Aren't we a puppet of Israel?

Silliness. While Russia was beating it's chest and saying, "We're coming in! We'll defend Egypt! We'll step in if England and the others don't leave!" the truth was that they were doing nothing.

China had already loaded their planes and were ready to fly. If we hadn't stepped in, China would have had an easy access to the Mediterranean Sea and we never would have gotten them out.

Sometimes we do things the public doesn't understand and accept the black eye.

It's sad when it's Americans who do the punching, out of ignorance, out of their own ideologies, second guessing the best informed people in our country (possibly the world) and feeling like that gives them the right to be seditious or treat our representatives in ways that if it were done to a civilian would get you sued for libel or slander.

It's like watching kibbitzers giving a couple of players a hard time about being stupid chess players with no skill at the game.

They just keep playing chess and shake their heads.

Did this come as a suprise to you, Pakistan is America's Ally?
They aren't going to invade the tribal areas, because there are many civilians there and if they mess up, Pakistan's armed forces is capable of damage unlike Iraq or Afghanistan, not to mention the Taliban themselves.

And its not like Pakistan hasn't tried to fight the terrorism in their own country. You don't just go in and start killing people in a country like that.

Let me ask you, how would you suggest they eliminate the terrorism problem in Pakistan?

hey, finally some clarity of thought, you win, you completely changed my previous views...i thought the war on terror started long ago, we just didn't want to deal with, Clinton kinda tried but failed so he gave up..i am giving up too.

so fearless leader, i will follow you now, well i will just as soon as i see your solution on how we should deal with them..or do they just not exist?

maybe they are figments of our horrible foreign policies for the last 50 years and if we would just keep our noses out of 'other ppls business, we would be love. i want to be love...tell me 'what's your plan?
