As a black woman, I must say that nothing really surprises or offends me when it comes to race relations. I stopped getting angry a while ago, and I'm only 22. It really just makes me want to educate people, because if you notice something, those with racist attitudes are typically undereducated.

well, slavery was not always bad for the slaves. Back in ancient Rome, they had rights. Not just blacks were slaves, but any tribe that the Romans defeated, they often brought back people to be slaves. Frequently, slaves back then were treated like one of the family. They were more like what we know as indentured servants. Still, being owned by another person is not the highest state in life, for sure. But, there were many who were glad not to have to worry about where their next meal was going to come from, how they would get by. The master had that pretty well set. Of course, there were some masters who were cruel... that's a part of human beings we still have to deal with, and it has nothing to do with slavery, per se.
When the North and South fought over slavery, eons later, it was a follow-up to the British, who stopped it there several years before. By the mid-18th century, slavery was seen for the degrading situation it was. Yet, there were many slaves who stayed on with old masters, because they could not or would not fend for themselves. It's tough being alone in this cold, cruel world. Not every master was a Simon Legree.
While I do not condone slavery, I do wish we could have some sort of system where we could help someone with their life, while they could help us with ours. Sort of a reciprocal setup. I'm a lousy housekeeper, and if I could help someone who had no place to go, and they could help keep the house neat, we could share making meals, and stuff like that, I would be in Heaven. It would be nice if we shared other interests, like reading, movies, etc., to be food for conversations. I like people, and don't want to get into a sexual relationship, just a friendly, reciprocal friendship sort of thing, each respecting the other.

My opinion: you SHOULD slap the person. What an idiot. I am sure that he or she is just trying to rile up people. I can't imagine anyone that stupid would be smart enough to feed his/herself in order to live.
