Hi, I've got a 2001 Aprilia SR125 petrol scooter. It's been sitting a month with a fuel tank of petrol and i've just topped it up with the same 2 stroke oil i've used throughout.

There is no kill switch, immobiliser or alarm, only a steering lock.

The battery is fully charged and working perfectly, the starter clicks as it should, the carb is clean as are all jets, gaskets etc. Plenty of fuel flow, Very strong spark and good compression, the exhaust is clear.

The engine wants to start and sounds like it would normally before starting but won't fire!!

A mechanic had a look at it but couldn't get it going after cranking it for ages and twidding the air mixture screw.

To get it to a garage is a 4 mile push =( ...I have no other transport!!

A bit of a long shot but does anyone have any ideas? Or just tell me what it COULD be?!

try replacing the spark plug. it may not be firing under compression. this is a common problem on 2 cycle engines. the plug looks like it has spark but doesn't fire inside the cylinder. good luck. also you will probably need the carb readjusted from your mechanic screwing with it.good luck

You may have "varnish", dried gasoline in the carb. If you are in a warm climate varnish can form in a month. Take the air cleaner off and squirt half of a teaspoon of gas into the carburator throat while cranking. If the engine fires you need to take the carb off and clean it up.

Its an basic engine. Do you have gas? Do you have fire? Can the two (gas&fire) meet? make effective the spark plug is sparking and the gas is getting to the region it could ignite.
