It's more like a fad thing--or wanting to have everything the Jones' do. People have become quite materialistic--that's why it's so common to see two parents from the same household working overtime, two jobs, etc.

If it were a psychological thing, then Elvis, Beatlemania, young Frank Sinatra, the Cabbage Patch Kids, X-Men, Barbie, etc. would also be.

I think it has a lot to do with advertizing--and with wanting everything your neighbor has.

It's not just Harry Potter though...

It's a desire to be "normal" by purchasing whatever is "popular".

Just look at the iPhone, Xbox and Cabage Patch Kids.

I enjoy those books. I got my copy. I also have become interested in another series if books by Angie Sage, also from England, who wrote Magyk, Flyte, and Physic. I am a little off-center, but I do not like crowds. I got my book in the mail. ;-)

Mob behavior usually involves fire, broken windows, damaged cars, and possibly hurt people.

I don't remember seeing any of that on the news.

when people feel they have not much else to think about, they gat obsessive. kind of like kids that are obsessed with anime, or harry potter, or music, or sports, they feel a passion for it, and want it......

No only is it manipulation but it's the utter need to believe that their are no more books. Very smart marketting.
