Hello, Click on Start > All Programs > Accessorise> System Tools > Disc Defragmenter. This will show the hard drive installed on your computer. The amount of space used on your hard drive. How big the hard drive is (so supposedly 40gb) Percentage of fee space. File system (don't worry about this but i assume because it is over 5gb it should be NTFS)

Yes, this day the cost of external usb hard drive is about the same as internet, except i hate is the big adapter that those usb hard drive comes with it. Make your your usb hard drive is decent speed, prefer 16mb buff and 7,2000 rpm.

yes, since the drive is refurbed on the pc, i would suggest buying that external drive. make sure the pc has usb 2.0 ports.
