Most laptops have QWERTY keyboards. Some European countries have a completely different layout, Germany use AZERTY, for example. The main difference, but not the only difference, between UK and USA keyboards are the @ sign appears above the 2 instead of to the right of the : key and the pound sign, above the 3 is a dollar sign. You can map your US keyboard to UK layout but if you do this, you lose the backslash completely.
The advice about the AC Adaptor being the wrong voltage is not correct. The AC Adaptor will accept 110-240v. You will of course need to change the mains plug from American 2 pin to UK 3 pin which is not really a major problem!
Good luck!

On the 1526 you have exactly two choices if the keyboard doesn't work: replace the built-in keyboard or use a USB keyboard. Call a local computer store and see if they have a replacement keyboard then you'll need to figure out how to take the old one out and put the new in.

US pc's have qwerty keyboards however there are some small differences such where the alt-keys are located. I believe the \ key is the alt-key on 1 in UK while it is it's own key on US keyboards.

No. They have qwerty keyboards ... the same as you might get anywhere else in the world. (QWERTY ... the letters along the top row of letter keys on your keyboard.)
