I plan to go there some time in the future, but I don't know much about it. So far the only things I know is that there over 40,000 Jehovah's Witnesses there. It has 21,000,000 people, It is in Europe, It is a poor country, and the girl of my dreams lives there. LOL Seriously though, what do you know about Romania?

Hey, go to youtube.com and put in "a world without romania" - it's posted by addyk2003 and it's in English. It's actually the first thing I've seen of this kind and it will give you some positive info on Romania.

Well I just came back from the capital Bucharest which is currently all under construction - I mean if you go there now, you'll see most of the streets dug up with wooden planks laid down to allow people to pass and a thick cloud of dust coming up from the debris. It's just chaotic...but this is a positive step forward for the country...they are in the process of rebuilding and bringing themselves out of the misery that was inflicted upon them by decades of dictatorship (especially the rule of Ceaucescu).

Anyway, Romania has responded to it's inclusion in the E.U. by really hiking up the prices...even the currency the Leu (now the new Romanian Leu or RON) has grown significantly (1 USD = 2.2 RON approximately). Gone are the days when you get a full course meal for 15 USD at a fancy restaurant.

It is true that economically Romania is still struggling to catch up to the rest of Europe and even to the other former Iron curtain countries...but I can assure you it is moving forward and with time will become like any other European country.

In the meantime though, if you want to visit Romania and your sweetheart, the country has a lot to offer outside of Bucharest.

In the province of Transylvania (and no...Dracula never existed - it's a myth that was born out from one of the rulers in the 15th C. Vlad Tepes) you'll find the cities of Sibiu, Brasov, Poina Brasov, Timisoara and Cluj. All beautiful, all picturesque, all surrounded by mountains.

In the province of Moldova you have the unique painted monasteries which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Romanian coastline, located on the Black Sea, also has a lot to offer with the resort towns of Mamaia and Constanta. Besides now, with the heat wave it gives a nice reprieve.

Romania also boasts wonderful mountain ranges, most notably the Carpathians, and of course the Danube River, Delta Danube, and the Prahova Valley.

Now as for demographics and the like...the overwhelming majority are Orthodox Christians. There is also a very visible Jewish minority. In the south-western part (that is Transylvania) of the country you'll see a strong German/Hungarian influence as well as Serbian.

Please don't let yourself be swayed by the negative media reports on Romania. It is an absolutely beautiful country and the people for the most part are very welcoming of tourists.

Romania is still trying to rid itself of the corruption that plagued it from WW2 onwards.

Bucharest has the second largest administrative building in the world, after the pentagon.

Since January 2007 Romania has been part of the EU.

I know a lot of other things about Romania, but have been drinking wine so can't think straight.

In 2006, Romania's population was 21,603,900. The Romania branch office of Jehovah's Witnesses reported 6,038,689 total hours of preaching by 38,397 active Witnesses, resulting in 1,146 baptisms. Their Memorial attendance was 76,296, and they conducted 19,548 bible studies (on average). There are 551 congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses in Romania, so they average 70 active Witnesses in each congregation.
