Dracaenas sanderiana or lucky bamboo needs its water changed weekly and it will live happily on old fish tank water, if you keep fish, since this will keep it fed without over doing the fertilizer and it has been dechlorinated.

Slow growing plants do not need much food. Yellow leaves are possible with overfeeding or over exposure to sunlight. Change the water immediately, move the container further from the light, and don’t feed at all for several months.

This plant likes high humidity and nonflouridated water. If you are using tap water try distilled or bottled water. Just add a couple of drops of aquarium plant food to the water you use to refill the plants container. But do not feed every time you change the water. Over feeding is very harmful to plants especially such a slow growing one.

I have used a product called Eleanor's VF 11. You mix it and spray the plant or water with it. It is one of the only foliar fertilizers on the market. For me it works like magic. I have even gotten Sansevieria (Mother-in-law tounge) to bloom. My Key Lime (which is not frost hardy), froze last winter. I sprayed the trunk and branches with it and they are now starting to grow again. It is cheap because you can buy one and get one free. You only need 2 TBSP per gallon. It also has a money back guarentee.

Try using some root start or any other type of fast growing plant starter mix.
