seems the radio is a bunch of fluff now, y'know? I remember when musicians actually played music.
It makes you realize, we only ever gonna have one Elvis, and Bruce Springsteen, y'know?

And for the older folks- I like some of the old punk rock ( specially Jerseys MISFITS-and some of the New York bands, they had the talent), but this younger generation what they call punk is a bunch of whiney babies, and the ELMO music, whats that. Was the old batch of punk that bad?

I completely agree with you. Although my music was 80's all the way! Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, AC/DC...real music, played on real musical instruments. Rock on!

The Standard of Music along with music education in schools has been in rapid decline for the last 50-60 years. There is only two major organisations to blame. One is record companies and the other is the Conventional Notation Heirarchy.

Statistics are now showing that only 7% of the global population can read sheet music.Children and Adults do not have the time anymore to spend the thousands of hours required in order to become a great musician.I read recently that Steve Vai still practices 8 hours every day.

Musicians nowadays want a quick passage to stardom and are willing to sacrifice their norturing talent based on the judgements of a record company executive or manager in the goal to sell records. Not long ago, artists were supported for a few records before being dropped, nowadays the artist has only one shot. The ones who do not sell out, their contracts are terminated.

This is why we have very untalented artists like Beyonce,Westlife,Robbie Williams etc and other wannabees incapable of composing music with more than a few chords without any technical progress. They may be able to sing, but there isn't any change in the foundations of their songs.

There are too many singers and very little musicians because thats what the Record Companies want.Singers who will revamp without debate-the songs the companys executives grew up with back in the 50 and 60s etc all for the sake of paying the massive royalties to the original writers.

Can you imagine if the great composers of yesteryear had modern sound technology at their disposal.Artists today who cannot play an instrument can get computers to write the music for them. Its just more of the same. The poster who said musicians of not long ago were one of a kind is very niave. If a singer is told-you sing this or else you're dropped from the label whats the artist going to do?..

Record Companies are now seeing blowback from how they have ruined the music talent across the world because people are no longer buying the labels' music. The media never ask artists why they choose to forfeit money over technical innovation in music because the answer is obvious.

Being an 80's metal guy I completely understand what you are saying, but... I actually disagree.

We have finally entered an era (thanks to the internet) where you don't have to listen to the 25 or so artists in your genre of choice that the major labels shove down your throat. There is much more accessibility to hundreds of artists in each genre. You have the ability to discover your own favorites even before they are signed in todays climate.

You just have to get out there and seek it out for yourself. I don't even know what they are playing on the radio these days because I never listen to it. I find indie bands I like and support them by actually buying their music and merch.

The other cool thing I've discovered, is that they are much more accessible. Go see Springsteen live and spend what $70- $100 bucks a ticket? Are you going to get to meet him or shake his hand? Hell no, you won't get within a half mile of the man.

I go to shows now for like $10 - $20 and generally get to meet the artist. The indie bands are so greatful for your support they will chat with you, sign anything you want, and even take pictures with you sometimes.

Music evolves constantly, and it may change in ways us that are a few years older don't like. I'm sure you can find some stuff you do enjoy if you look hard enough. I was feeling just like you until I did a little research. It's opened up a whole new world for me. I never got to meet Ozzy or AC/DC, or Led Zep, but now i'm discovering bands before they are big and actually getting to hang with them a bit.

OK i hear exactly were you are coming from. I am guessing you are possibly a young adult who has some what decent range of music. Do you notice how every generation will say things like, remember when music actually meant something, or others would say back in the we had all the good jams. I think that is true that when we were young we liked what ever music appealed to us at that time. Now that we are adults we have to be responsible enough to not be fed garbage and we have to actually look for music that we like not something shoved down our thoughts. We have to think now for our selfs and not let Radio One and Clear Channel doing our thinking for us, don't get me started on MTV and BET. With all the names that I mentioned i want you to know that these are cooperations. Their only fame to life isn't to produce good valued music. Their jobs are to make money no matter what the video and lyrics contain. Just one example MTV is titled Music Television, yet about only thirty five percent of their shows are actually music videos. so if that helps in any way shape or form let me because i think this something people need to actually need to look at and disscouse

Rock and roll seems to go through phases and lulls with groups and good original music. There was a big lull when arena rock finally evolved into glam metal and hair bands. There was somewhat of a lull when hair metal burnt out and grunge and alternative music came around. There seems to be a lull in good metal right now but hopefully that will change soon. Hip hop and rap seem to rule right now and the industry seems rather depressed. But it will be back. All the corporations are bought into the world of no talent music right now so that's what the world is buying. But we are waiting for a renegade like Van Halen or Cobain or Dime Bag to come along to rebirth rock and roll. Just be patient. It'll happen

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the ear in this case Lou,that is an old saying but it still holds true even for music. A music lover is a music lover is a music lover is a ect, A music lover will love all music, maybe favor one style more than another, Still the fact remains we enjoy diff, flavors at diff. moods,if you are sad maybe you want to hear Blues or C&W, get my drift? I am not partial to rap ,but it carries a good beat ,if you want to dance. I am partial to the 60s beat ,all of it ,guess i was in my teens ,so that brings back lots of memories ya know ,school,Nam war ,pot, protests, rebellions, man things were going on!!! So I guess you want to live in the past, thats cool ,I'll send you my old LPs,not counting Elvis and The Boss,Of course!!! Peace .

Not sure if youd call them punk or not, but check out Psychostick. Theyre pretty cool unless its old "Anarchy" type stuff youre looking for. As for the question, the reason why no good music comes out anymore is because there arent any decent bands out there (hardly) anymore. Best bands Ive heard so far are Flyleaf, Within Temptation, and Lacuna Coil.

emo music sucks. How dare you put that in the same paragraph as punk! And I'm the younger generation and let me tell ya somethin right here. The radio is a waste of time. You want real music? Do yourself a favor and get an XM. You get real punk music, real alternative music, whatever floats your boat, they got it.

I wholeheartly agree!!! Today's "music" is all about the image and money. It's not about the music anymore! Back then, you had to have musical talent (singing, writing and instrumental) to even get a record deal. Now it's based on who you know and how you look like. Now people like me who poured all their heart and soul into their music can't even get noticed because the corrupt music industry want someone like Paris Hilton and the like. The whole thing is complete asinine and needs to go back to being about the damn music!!
