Not in the United States. The military willl not hesitate to fight if it is necessary--but those with combat experience are never "pro-war."
They've seen the reality--and don't think of it as a glorified "Rambo" moviie the way the neocons do. Furteer--no, they do not have a more dictatorial view--quite the opposite. These are the men and women who put their lives on the line to defend the freedom that makes this country worth fighting for--so they value it highly--above their own lives--and they don't take it for granted.
And you're seeing this now. Of the civilian leaders, politicians, and retired military--almost noe of those still suppporting Bush have real military (combat) experience. The ones still supporting Bush, with very few exceptions, have never seen what a war is really like.

People in the military are trained to do what they are told by above..EG Taking orders. Obviously some like it this way, and others are just there for the war itself.
If there was no conflict in the world, the military would be out of work...no promotion, no pay rise, no blowing stuff up...etc.
Also worth noting, and this is the key...THERE WOULD BE NO WAR FUND! NO WEAPONS BEING BUILT< NOTHING.
The military like war for a number of reasons, but the main being from a government perspective is that it generates a lot of money, and, to my knowledge, nobody has been elected out when the nation has been at war or in conflict with another.

I was in the military and I would have to say it's mixed. A lot of people in the military very well understand the way gov't works and have moderate views. Some military have more dictatorial viewpoints on things, I guess.

I think your question is unfair. You ask if military people are "PRO war". Military people understand that war is sometimes an option, sometimes the only option. There is the other side that believes that war is NEVER an option. Imagine a doctor who did not believe in amputation. You could die while he or she attempts to find an option that they can live with. Sometimes amputation, which seems extreme, is the right option. Likewise, sometimes war is the right option. Military people understand this and don't shirk if called upon.

No GI I ever met was pro-war. Every one was all for doing his job (killing people and breaking things) as effectively as possible if called on to do it, but understanding better than most the harm that war brings we DO NOT seek it.

Generally speaking...Yes. It could be a major problem but that's a private issue. Some are more regimented but that's considering the company they keep. So put your mind at ease and let this get your attention. You can always do an about face and retreat and thats todays drill and what a mess.

I think its fair to say that people who enlist are more ready and more able to accept war as administrator level decision, and are trained for combat in that event, and as a bonus recieve high wages, get a college education, and free housing for their services.

I don't think pro-war is accurate. Pro-whatever-war-is-assigned, yes -- but rooting for a war, any war, thinking it should always be the solution, in peacetime? No.
