Dish of water with a couple of drops of detergent mixed in. Shine a dim light over it in an otherwise dark room.

Frontline Flea and Tick drops work best. Put it in a place where they cannot lick it off and it absorbs into their bloodstream. Safe and effective but don't bathe them for 2-3 days after applying to allow it to absorb.

Front line is the best for pets. Vacuum and shampoo the carpet and wash all your clothes. You have to kill the eggs too or you will have a re-infestation.
