Whenever I hit shutdown or restart, my laptop does nothing. I've tried hitting ctrl alt delete twice and other alternatives to no avail. Has anyone heard of this? Is there a program that will restart my laptop or is there a simple way to fix this?

And I'm looking for a way aside from holding the power key down and then re-powering it up.

Push the on button and hold it down till the computer shuts off, then restart

I used to have a HP notebook and for several weeks I had the same problem. I wasn't able to shutdown or restart, but I could put it into hibernate. A friend recommended I go to Trend Micro and run their house call program. I had several trojans and worms that my antivirus program never picked up.
