My battery came on a while back and a few days later my car started acting funny. I took a trip to mcdonalds and on the way back my Speedometer was going whacko and the rpm gauge was too. My cd player was cutting off randomly too. When I got home and was ready to leave the car the windows took forever and a day to wind up(auto). I got home and when I tried to start it again it wouldnt start. So me and my dad took the battery to autozone and they charged it. When I got home, we installed it and the battery light came on again. I don't know how long it will run and need some help on what to do. someone help!

quick and easy way to tell , charge battery , start car , while engine is running disconnect ground cable from battery. if engine shuts down, it's your alternator. if it stays running it's something else. but from what you have said it's most likely the alternator. remember all you eletrical systems runs from the alternator while the engine runs, til it quits then it runs from the battery. just like a flashlight the battery will last for a little while but it will die. I can't believe autozone didn't tell you that. wait a min. yeah i can lol.

So is this the original battery? I doubt it since you should be on your second or third battery by now, but with the people asking questions on this site you never fricken know! If you have blackened contacts on either the battery posts or on the inside of the cable clamps you may have poor continuity and need to scrape clean the contacting surfaces. I don't know if you removed the cables when you charged the battery but cleaning the cable clamps and posts should have been done before attempting to charge the battery. You also need a charger capable of charging at12 volt 10 amps and a minimum of 6 hours charge time. A good alternator will put out 13.7 volts at 2,500 rpm. If under 13 volts I suspect a bad diode which would cause the light to come on.

Sure no problem. Check your alternator output with a volt meter. Simple set the meter for 20 volts and touch the red lead wire to the positive battery terminal and the black wire to the negative side of your battery. With the motor running you should see 13.5 - 14.0 volts. If not your alternator may need replacing.

If you don't have a volt meter Auto Zone will check the alternator output voltage for you.

Be absolutely sure your battery terminals are clean and tight. Check the opposite ends of the battery leads also. The positive lead to the starter and the black ground wire must be clean and tight. Auto Zone Can detect a bad battery cable also.

your alternator might of gone back. the batt starts the car and the alternator run the car after it starts. if the alternator goes bad then the whole car runs off the batt and wont last but maybe 10 mins.

Might be helpful to know the year, make, and model of the car. We're not mind readers ya know.

I would next check the alternator and voltage regulator if so equipped.

Could also be one of dozens of computers that are in cars these days.

Best thing to do is have it "scoped"
