try New Orleans. Well, not New Orleans but south of it. There's still a lot of devestation and they need help. I have been down there for over 2 weeks and felt like I could stay 2 years. It gives you a satisfaction you will never get from spending 2 weeks on the beach. My whole family went, from 7yo to 52 yo! We hooked up with Emergency Communities (emergencycommunities.org) which is a hippie organization and if you have pretty young children, I would not reccomend. We felt that God placed us there for a reason, and our time there has always had a special place in our hearts. Try searching online, you'll never regret it!
also try www.volunteermatch.org, zipcode 70041

Orlando Florida is not very far from you if you have never been there. California is a great place. Lots of things to do out west. Grand canyon, beaches, shopping, Hot Springs ark, Pigeon Forge TN, Hershey Pennsylvania....do not come to Memphis...killings everyday, not but maybe one day of sight seeing and that is it...really nothing here. I am just trying to keep you from wasting you time. Memphis is pretty on the river but inside the city nothing to really offer a family with kids while kids are being killed here daily. check the news you will see. Good luck and have fun..
