You can use regular detergent, just know if your baby has sensivite skin, s/he could get a reaction. I only buy All free and clear. It has no scent and is great for everyones' clothes. I also buy the unscented dryer sheets. I have redheaded children and I have very sensitive skin. These products work for us.

Just remember that Dreft doesn't remove any flame retardancy from the clothes. Regular detergent can. If you are going to use something else, try to use something that is dye and fragrance free. Don't want to encourage allergies at this point. Baby All is a little cheaper than Dreft and does the same. As far as softner sheets, the less chemicals in your baby's clothes, the better. Just cut them in half, which will still be more than enough.

It actually depends on whether or not your baby has sensitive skin. If it did, you would know by now because I am assuming you don't wash your clothes in Dreft & when you hold your baby it's skin is touching your clothing, right?
When I was a new mom I fell for the Dreft thing, too, but then it occured to me that i could just wash my kids stuff with regular detergent because they didnt have sensitive skin at all.

I use tide from the time they are born. If your baby doesn't have sensitive skin, then it will be ok. I use to use softener sheets, never had a problem, but then stopped when tide started putting downy in the soap. If you want something you can use for the whole family and baby, if you are worried about skin irritation, tide and other laundry detergents make "free and clear" laundry soap. It is far cheaper then buying dreft.

As long as your baby doesnt have very sensitive skin it should be fine! I used one bottle a dreft ever! Then realized that regular detergent had no effect on my baby and I didnt need to spend the extra money! (I have also always used fabric softner sheets)

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE DREFT! I read in two books and have been told by more than one doctor that it is safe to use regular detergent. Dreft is just a way to get you to spend more money on detergent. I've washed my son's clothes with mine since he's been born.

Its fine to use Tide or Gain. I use tide and put the washer on extra rinse. My baby hasn't had any problem with it. If you don't have an option on your washer like that then just don't use as much as you use on your clothes. It makes no sense to buy baby detergent cuz when you hold the baby so it will be up against your clothes. You can also just buy fragrance free detergent if you want rather than buying that expensive baby detergent.

Yes to both your questions, just watch his skin when he first starts wearing the clothes washed in the harsher detergent if he brakes out in a rash go to a milder detergent if he doesn't break out in any form of a skin irritation you can continue to use the detergent you have on hand and same with dryer sheets.

Beware of fabric softeners and baby clothes. Many fabric softeners cause problems with flame retardant clothing. I never use fabric softeners on my kids pjs because of this. Read the labels before you use them.

It is perfectly safe to use the same detergent on your baby's clothes that you use on your clothes. The baby lays on your chest and smells you all day anyways.... might as well save money and use the same stuff. It works just as good.
