You must use an "air-mail" stamp. it costs more than the regular 1st class stamp of .41 cents.
I believe it is now over .80 cents It is obtainable in any post office. You buy the stamp and as long as it is an ordinary letter. It will go to China by airmail for a little over the price of one air mail stamp which is a little over .80 cents. i am not sure how much more since the postal rates increased in May. I have not sent an air-mail letter since that time.

another thing to remember is that it is a little over .80cents per half ounce of the weight of the letter. So it is best if you have it weighed by the window clerk at the post office. Then you will know for sure.

If you just use a regular .41 cent stamp to mail that letter to China it will go by surface mail which in that case is by boat and it will take several months for your letter to reach China.

So a trip to the Poast Office will solve that problem because you will get the correct stamp (postage) to put on the envelope.

I hope this has been of help to you.
