It all depends on the individual driver. Some teens are extra alert because driving is a new experience for them, but some teens are so careful it makes them dangerous, and other teens try to impress friends by driving fast and recklessly. Some older drivers are good because they are not in a rush, and are confidant behind the wheel. Confidence can work against an older driver though if they start to multi-task with food, radio, cell phones, talking to passengers, etc. Statistically though, I'd have to say teenagers are worse on average, which is why they pay higher insurance than most adults. :)

It all depends on who it is in particular that you're referring to, but in general those who are older and have more experience are the better drivers. However, as I said before it really depends on the person. Some teens are great drivers, and some older people are rather dangerous. Also, the reverse is true. Some teens are terrible, and some people with more years of experience are just terrific. But as I said, those who are older and have more experience are generally the better drivers.

Let's put it this way. I have NEVER had a senior tailgate me in driving rain, driving snow, or fog, but I have been tailgated in those conditions. I have never had a senior pass me on the shoulder doing well over the speed limit, but I have been passed like that. I have never seen a senior riding a crotch rocket through red lights at double the speed limit, but I have seen it done. Seniors, as a group, have many years of experience and common sense behind them, that is why they get discounted insurance rates. Teens have no experience behind them, but if they have been taught properly, and if they paid attention, they have the potential to get that experience. There is that small minority of teenagers that think they are invincible. They are the truly rotten drivers. They are the ones that think you can drive faster in winter if you have a 4WD. They are also the ones that think it is okay to smoke, they won't get cancer. They are the ones that think you don't get pregnant the first time you have sex. It is just that small minority that make the rest look much worse.

How old--and how young? Older folks start to have trouble with their eyes and the works when they get to a certain age, but the kinds of teenagers who only have a few months of experience can be pretty stupid drivers even though their reflexes are better.

Just heard the answer over the radio... Older people tend to drive slower and more careful, thus get into fewer accidents, whereas teenagers are too confident of their abilities and end up getting into more trouble. Thus, older people are better drivers. It's a recent study too.

If you mean older ones as in old people, then I would have to say in between tens and old people. Teens drive too fast and make sharp turns while old people drive too slow and drift into other lanes accidentley.

That is too blanketed of a population . There are some bad old and teenage drivers . As much as i hate old drivers and i do think they are slightly worse atleast they are predictable and drive slow . Some teenagers try to show off and race in thier not very fast cars , cutting off traffic and what not .
how about only allowing ages 18 to 60 drive ??

According to insurance reports, teens are involved in more accidents than the elderly.
