"Israel's lobby is extremely active in Washington."
Compared to what other lobby groups?
I thought they all are more or less "extremely active". (and for the record, Israel does not have a "lobby group". There are lobby groups that advocate for Israel. Slight distinction that is probably lost on you.)
"Israel receives as a result unheard of financial and military support from the US government."
Unheard of? I think we hear about it all the time from people like you. Do you hear about the fact that Egypt is #2 on the list of foreign aid? You don't seem to be concerned about that.
"However, there is never a statement of commitment that Israel would support the USA in any form. It's a one way street."
And if you say that then it seems you haven't been paying any attention.

It would be great if you could get your basic facts straight.
Israel offered, several times, to be allowed to send troops to support the allies in Iraq and Afganistan. Bush said No Way because it was feared that having Israeli troops there would just inflame things further.
As for the Israeli lobby in Washington - I bloody hope they are active! Here in the UK there isn't one at all. Instead at present we have umpteen Muslim and pro Islam groups and councils and lobbies and they are slowly but surely eroding free speech for everyone but themselves.
Most minorities have a lobbying group to speak up for their cause. Why on earth shouldn't Israel? She's smaller than the state of New Jersey and is surrounded by Muslim nations that want to destroy her.
You should be proud that America supports the only democracy in the Middle East (yes, that is Israel).
And it's hardly a one way street. America's enemies are Israel's enemies; you are fighting the same terrorism. Israel is in the frontline and you benefit from her intelligence info.
Perhaps you'd prefer to support Iran, where women still get stoned to death? Or Saudi Arabia, where women aren't allowed to drive?

I don't know what exactly the US gains from being Israel''s friend, but it has been like this in many generations. Israel is definitely, without a doubt, much better friend in the Middle East. As Jewish American I hope in my heart it will continue like this in my life time. I am very proud that the US has always been Israel's friend, not an enemy.
No it's not one way street. The Israelis share their intelligence experience with the US. Keep in mind that Israeli intelligence is the best in the world. America learns a lot from Israel when it comes to the intelligence.

I think your think is wrong. The US supports the only viable democracy in the Middle East. It is in our best interest to do so. As a result we have at least one ally. The US does not want Israel to get involved in disputes. If Israel helped the US, the entire muslim world would rise up against Israel.

I also find it funny that Israel won't allow any US military bases in its territory. Oh well, at least Israel is more friendly to Western Culture. Just look at the difference in how well-to-do the Israelis are compared to their Arab neighbours.

They must hold something HUGE over our heads. No way should we support a country that uses state sponsored terrorism.

... and there never will be... if push came to shove.. it would depend on what would be in it for Israel... they are not known to be supporters of anyone but themselves.
