I have an older laptop with wireless capabilities - but it has Win98...

My DSL is connected in my bedroom and for some reason won't work in the other jacks in my house. Is there either a way to just get a really long cord so I can work in my living room, or a way I can set up wireless internet for under 50.00?

I would probably need a router - and the card to plug into my laptop.

If your laptop has wireless capability then all you need is a wireless router. Connect the router to your modem's Ethernet port. You should be able to get a wireless router for little money. If you laptop is older it probably has an 802.11B wireless interface. All you need is 802.11B capable router, which may be difficult to find, but you can also use 802.11G.

The latest and greatest wifi standard is 802.11N. Those will be the most expensive - you don't need that, but it will work with 802.11B.

well if your laptop has wi-fi, then all you'll need is a wireless router/modem. i think most internet companies offer them now or lend/sell them for cheap.

or you can look on ebay for accessories/parts.
