Everyone knows about the Red Sox's Curse of the Bambino, or the Cubs' curse of the "billy goat", but why was it that the White Sox "curse" never got any play? Their drought was actually two years longer than the Red Sox's (88 years to 86).

The short answer would be, no one wrote a book about the White Sox with the word "curse" in it. A book with it was written about the Red Sox, and it caught on ... even though there was no such thing as a curse -- the Red Sox were victims of bad luck (they played the best teams of the decade in 1967, 1975 and 1986) and of their own stupidity (slow to sign African Americans).

The White Sox have flown under the radar screen for year, perhaps because of the lack of success. They've never been as popular as the Cubs nationally. Their ballpark has never been as beloved as the Cubs' home. So, yes, the White Sox' streak was a bit under-reported nationally. If they had flipped years with the Red Sox, maybe the Chicago team would have gotten more attention.

the curse of the Black Sox is all I can think of, even as a die-hard Sox fan. The Red Sox curse of the Bambino is more well known because the Babe not only screwed with the Red Sox the rest of his career, but the whole entire league did.

Probably the 'curse' was the Black Sox scandal of 1919. Curses don't really exist. Hm. But then there ARE the Cubs. . .maybe they do!
