considering that the constitution spells out that a president can stay in office for two terms or ten years, i guess bush is going to have to leave office by law. now lets look at this so called mess shall we? taxes are reasonably low, the government has money rolling in, the economy is soaring, the dow is above 14,000, unemployment is near all time lows, and we have not been attacked since 9/11/01. we have also liberated 50 million people from totalitarian rule. yeah real mess there.

That is what every president has done throughout history. Coolidge didn't run a second term and gave no reason for it.But I can guarantee you that he saw the great depression coming and he left because he knew people would blame him for it.And he was right because since Hoover was in office at the time,he got the blame.Every president dumbs some kind of mess on the next presidents lap.You can't take care of everything when you have at the most eight years in office.

Is it unfair to leave the presidency with a poor economy already in recession, terrorists ready to strike the country because you did nothing to stem them, a vigorous disdain for the rule of law, and physically leave the White House in a mess? Because that's exactly how Clinton left things on 20 January 2001.

No its unfair, that's the whole reason he should be impeached and tried for war crimes this will restore the people's faith in our government if we can at least hold him responsible.
If, We the People fail to force accountability for these crimes this fall, President Bush will have a free ride with impunity through the Presidential election year of 2008, when the Constitutional duty to impeach will succumb to political pressure, to the end of his second term in January 2009.
The impeachment of Bush, Cheney and the other civil officers of the United States is not merely the best way to bring our troops home from Iraq and prevent new aggressions, it is the sure way and the only way. President Bush, who assaults nations in the name of democracy has proclaimed himself the one man “decider” for the fate of our country and its victims. For him, democracy is an election controlled by wealth every four years and dictatorship in between.
If we fail, the world will see that the American people are powerless to effectively oppose Bush policies that have angered and embittered billions of people, making enemies of most nations, or worse, that the American people support Bush policies. How else could such lawless and destructive policies be tolerated?

Mr 7617,
No, I don't think so. Every President is expected to be working up until the time that he/she leaves office. The current busloads of candidates for President know the problems and difficulties of our country. Heaven help them if they say "I didn't know that it was this bad - it's going to take me three years to do what I told you would take two weeks when I was campaigning". That will do them no good - especially in this perilous time.

Pass an ammendment to let him run again then vote him back into office. That's about the only alternative.

That is how it has been from president to president. The other has to pick up where the other left off. That's just how it is.
