My family will be relocating in approximately one year to Florida. The only problem is we cant decide which city. I am white, husband-africian american with three bi-racial children. I would like a place that is of course, safe with great schools but that is racially diverse. I've narrowed it down to these three cities only by the cost of living is similar to ours. I definately want to be near the ocean. Anyone who has opinions about these areas, who has lived there, raised a family there etc, please help.

Jacksonville sounds like a good area for you.The job marketis pretty good in that area.
The education system is pretty good and the law enforcement agencys in the area is also one of the better ones.

I've lived in Pensacola all of my life. In 1987, my 2nd marriage was mixed race, the same as yours with my two step children being bi-racial. I had two daughters from a first marriage, both white. My children were always comfortable and accepted here. With the Navy bases, the University of West Florida and Pensacola Junior College, there are people from all walks of life and mixed relationships of many ethnic backgrounds. Of course, there are areas, like in any city that has their preferences but for the most part, no problems. (My mother in law hated me because I wasn't African American.) We have water everywhere, beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, bayous, the Bay, and although we're not a huge city, we're not small town either. Our sands are white like sugar and beautiful. I haven't been to Port St. Lucie but I didn't care for Jacksonville the last time I was there. It was actually too much of a Navy town.

Our interstates have been under construction for awhile due to the need for updating and expansion and should be completed for the most part by the end of 2007. My friend just moved here from the Columbus, Ohio area and he loves the way people are and the fact that it's easy to get around Pensacola. Most people love it because of the beaches and it's convenient to jump on the interstate and go in any direction. Plus, if we stop someone on the street and ask what time it is, we can actually get an answer and not be ignored. Pensacola is "just right"...If you make this your choice, "Welcome to Pensacola".

Pensacola, but just barely. I lived just outside of it for two decades. I moved to Port Saint Lucie, and most of my family lives in Jacksonville. Pensacola is the most diverse and modern of the three, although I do like them all. The difference is not much, however. I'd pick the place with the best job and that you think you'd enjoy the most.
