Houseplants with soil that is too wet, and fruits cause gnats in the house.

Set out lids or open bowls with a small amount of vinegar in each room.

I usually am not bothered by gnats unless I have a food source lying around. Like fruit in a bowl or a compost container/for the big pile.
Check first and make sure there is no food source to attract them otherwise use the fly swatter. No chemicals in that. I would prefer the chemicals /if organic as opposed to dead gnats all over.
Good Luck!

Organic spray

any decaying plant of meat will invite and breed gnats, so get rid of them. Some times you see a cloud, suck with a vacuum clean without the cleaning head and you will reduce their population

Simple. Let your plant´s dry out for a week , or even a couple of day´s. As they live of the fresh soil and dead root´s from your household plant´s. Put your plant´s outside ,if you have a nice sunny day, like this the soil will dry up quicker
