Well sorry to tell you but you just added more problems for your machine-Loading Norton and firewalls add to the load at Start up
Is there too much starting when you turn on, i.e. quick-time real-player msnmsg etc. Try this Click on start-run type msconfig.
You'll now be faced with a window entitled system config utility. Click on the start-up tab (last on right) and untick the programs you really don't need to start with the machine. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS LEAVE ALONE.
Next go to start-all progs-accessories-system tools-disk defragmenter and analyse your hard drive. defrag if deemed necessary. This will take over an hour. Also use the disk clean up tool found in the same place. (In fact do this before defrag, might same some time)
NB when you reboot you'll get a warning that you have used the system config tool, just untick the box saying show this at start up. Best of luck

I bought Norton and ended up taking it off my PC, made it run like a DOG!
The thing that slowed it down the most was actually the Firewall part. Try using another firewall before you do away with the anti-virus.

Using a registry cleaner can fix your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".
Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically! It even can speed up your computer by 300% or more!
There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

Do a full virus scan.
Do a full spyware scan.
Open the “msconfig” utility and stop all unnecessary programs from loading with Windows by removing the check mark from in front of them. To do this, click: Start and then Run. In the Run box, type “msconfig” without the quotes, and then choose the “Startup” tab.

Get rid of Norton. It's probably the biggest drain on your RAM. Try Kaspersky or a free one like AVG or Avast!. Clear all temp files and cookies (in IE go to tools -> internet options). Download 'Spybot Search and Destroy' and AdAware and run them. Then defrag your computer.

Try uninstalling stuff you don't need to run. If your computer was bought with lots of packaged software, do you use any of it? Get rid of it. No point of having it there if you are not going to use it.
You may have spyware that is trying to access the internet. Get an anti-spyware product to remove them. Some spyware maybe viral but AV products may not get all the spyware that is not viral.

it's not a virus. I had exactly the same problem. I was given the following advice and it has worked brilliantly.
In your start menu, click control panel and then system. in system properties click on advanced. in performance click adjust for best performance.
You could also try the following. I did and it did help a bit more.
Click on advanced at the top and go to virtual memory. click change, click custom size. in initial size put 1000. in maximum size put 2000. click set. click ok.

This may be not from viruses this may because your ram is too low and you are running applications which take a big size of ram or may also from the processor
