Gold fish REST. Do Goldfish dream? Do Goldfish Sleep?? Well! Goldfish are diurnal, which means they are active in the day rather than at night - much like humans. Goldfish appear to go into a trance-like state at night, although this is not really sleep, because they don't close their eyelids (beacause Goldfish don't have eyelids! Other than closing their eyes, it does seem just like sleep similar to that humans experience

Yes they do.
They don't close their eyes but they rest on the bottom floor. I once tried flashing a flashlight down at them, because I was curious just like you, and they didn't even notice it, until another fish (that was awake) swam near them. That made the water move and roused the gold fish from its sleep.

The reason they dont shut there eyes is because they dont have eye lids, At night they rest at the bottom of the tank restoring there enjery for the next day.

I don't think they have eye lids. I do think they sleep. My goldfish seem to be on the same schedule as my family, because during the day they swim quite actively. If I get up during the night, they're all sitting on or near the bottom of the tank. Sometimes, during the day, I'll see one or more of them sitting on the bottom of the tank. Even as I walk by or stand there and watch, it will sit still, as if it's napping.

No, fish don't sleep. They may seem like it when they're resting at the bottom, but they are just resting. Only one particular shark does sleep.
