I am looking for an internal Firewire port for my computer. I would prefer it in the front of my computer if possible. I have looked at different ports at Newegg.com and don't know which one i should get.

Any suggestions (please don't refer me to any sites such as Newegg.com, tell me the actual peice of hardware that your recomend) thanks!

If you install a PCI card Firewire adaptor, the ports are generally going to be on the back.

You need a firewire adaptor unit that says "front panel" or something similar.

You may also need a firewire PCi card to connect the front panel section to internally, but I've never used one so not sure.

what type of dell computer do you have? a firewire port generally looks like a usb port but with one curved side. Some laptops will have a smaller firewire port that literally look like a small rectangle less than .5 cm wide. The giveaway is that these ports are generally labeled IEEE 1394. If you can provide the model number of your dell, we can tell you an exact answer. If your computer doesn't have firewire, you can purchase a firewire adapter card for the machine.

If the pc does not come with a built in firewire port on the front, you are not likely to be able to add one in the front.

You can get a firewire card and put it in a pci slot in the back. There are several makers of these. Do a search for "firewire pci card" at Yahoo or at your favorite pc supply house.
