2wire dsl model encryptation key?

Question

I have dsl from phone co
They gave me a 2wire dsl modem and a manual
Dont remember where I put the manual
modem crapped out and they sent me another
i need to reporgram my laptop with wireless to access the system
As I recall from last time, the encryptation I want is WEP shared; 64 bits
there are 3 numbers on the sticker on the back of the 3wire
1st is P/n
2nd is a 10 digit number
3rd is a 4ditit - 6 digit - 3digit
I've tried the 2nd nbr - 10 numeric digits - as the encrypation key
The result is that the settings - network display says limited or no connectivity

the adap[ter is a 3com pcmicia card

can you tell me what I am doing wrong

modem works great - i have 2 computers attached via ethernet

go to your hardwired pc
>open browser
>log into the router 192.168.1.1
>go to security tab
> get your wireless security key from there or username and password.
>shutoff your laptop
>start up your laptop and wait for the wireless signal to become available
>pick the named connection you did in setup if pppoe,static,or dhcp that your wireless capable laptop picks up...
>enter username and password or..
>enter security key
>your online
>close router page
>enjoy

I suspect you do not have all the data needed to configure things.

See if you can reset the modem to factory settings and start the wireless config over. Access the modem using a wired connection and configure the modem with a wired connection, never with a wireless connection.

Now that I have more info

Reconfigure the wireless on the router. Since the 2 others are connected via wired port and do not use wireless you can change things without problem.

Select an ssid you like (not a common name others would figure out as your connection).

Set the encryption. If you can select WPA2, do so, if not select WPA, if not avaliable use WEP. If you use WPA, select a 12 character or larger preshare key which is a mix of upper and lower case letters and numbers. Record what you did as you will need it.

Activate MAC address validation. Record the labtop's wireless port MAC address on the router where it is to be listed. Make sure you use the MAC of the wirless port, not the MAC of the laptop itself.

Now fire up the lap top. Configure the wireless port of the wireless for the encryption you selected on the router. Enter the preshare key if you use WPA or WPA2. Search for your wireless and you should find it and be logged on.
